ATEX ist ein weit verbreitetes Synonym für die ATEX-Richtlinien der Europäischen Union. Die Bezeichnung ATEX leitet sich aus der französischen Abkürzung für ATmosphères EXplosives ab. ATEX umfasst aktuell zwei Richtlinien auf dem Gebiet des Explosionsschutzes, nämlich die ATEX-Produktrichtlinie 2014/34/EU und die ATEX-Betriebsrichtlinie 1999/92/EG.
