Code disc

Code patterns allow rotary or linear encoders to monitor position, angle, and speed. The tick marks or codes are inscribed as digital patterns on a glass, metal or plastic disc. These marks or codes are scanned using a light source. Encoders with optical scanning typically have higher resolutions than magnetic encoders.
