Pick-and-place

Pick-and-place machines are used for circuit board assembly in printed circuit board manufacturing.

A placement head "picks" electronic SMT components (surface mounted technology) off of feeders and "places" them on a printed circuit board (PCB). Pick-and-place machines require sensor solutions from two application areas: sensors for protecting the machines with safety solutions and for detecting PCBs, and sensors for inspecting components with identification solutions such as 2D code readers.
